TEAM:

Negar Kalantar is an architect and has been actively engaged in professional and academic experiences in the past few years.

Kalantar is an assistant professor in the department of Architecture at Texas A&M University. Her design research goal is to develop adaptable design as a methodology and design discipline in order to introduce new ways of thinking. Areas of application include adaptive envelopes and transformable structures that change the quality of space and the connection of human and environment. The outcome of a decade of experience in developing kinetic and adaptive design, ranging from architectural-scale structures to small products, was presented at the Technical University of Vienna, the Technical University of Berlin, Maryland University, Tehran University and the Blacksburg Visual Art's Experiential Gallery. She was the recipient of several awards including the CIbM Innovation Competition, the King Medal for Excellence in Architecture and Environmental Design Research and the XCaliber Award for Excellence in Technology-Assisted Teaching. Kalantar is an associate editor for an international publication, 2A Magazine.

Alireza Borhani is a designer and researcher whose scholarly interests lie at the intersection of emerging building technologies with current and next generation design strategies. By bringing together digital and analog fabrication workflows across scales, his research investigates the potency of transformable design principles, helping to create adaptive designs, building components and architecture. Borhani’sresearch projects cast light on how an exploratory concept of motion can be oriented toward shaping a better environment. His current research focuses on applications of additive manufacturing technology as a catalyst of innovation, in order to expand new ways of design in interactive and responsive environments.
